"The Avenue" was just voted "Best Rock Club" in The Fairfield County Weekly's

annual readers poll! Here's what they said (5/8/03):

A bridesmaid last year, the Avenue Cafe has risen to the pinnacle in 2003. Owner Benny Nelson said his establishment has surmounted the "Best of" heap by offering all kinds of music, "from one extreme to the other. All sorts of stuff." In the Avenue Cafe, bluegrass, original rock and cover bands exist together under one musical roof. If you're lucky, you may drop in on open mic night and see Fairfield County's next big thing. If you feel like singing yourself, try karaoke night. At heart, Nelson said, the Avenue Café is "a blue-collar kind of place," but added that all sorts of people feel welcome there. The crowd represents a fine cross section of Fairfield County with plumbers and lawyers sitting side by side. In addition to rock and bonhomie, Avenue Café offers a neighborhood bar feel with hot food from the kitchen Friday through Sunday and Sunday brunch on the patio. Rock, food, beer and diversity. Now that's a winning club.
